This guy is the larger, white flowering relative of Strelizia reginea the orange flowering Bird of Paradise. Bird of Paradise may not always flower when kept indoors. The leaves naturally tear and have a shabby chic, rugged appearance and foliage is unlikely to be pristine. Strelitzia grow best in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sunlight may scorch the leaves.

It can cope for periods in partial shade but needs bright light longer term. An East or West facing window is ideal. Keep the soil moist and water when the top cm of the soil has become slightly dry. This exotic plant thrives in Australia and can be grown for a variety of uses. They're perfect for beginner gardeners as they don't require a great deal of maintenance and are brilliant at bouncing back from any gardening issues. Getting its name from the exotic white flowers it produces in the wild, it is rare, however, that it will flower indoors when kept as a houseplant.
